Conference Description
“The Fundamentals of Language Assessment” focuses on the principles of test design, construction, administration and analysis that underpin good testing practice, but this workshop presupposes no prior knowledge of testing or statistics. Participants will be provided with the essential theoretical and practical background that they need to construct and analyze their own tests or to evaluate other tests.
During this workshop, each of the following topics will be covered in a brief presentation immediately followed by practice in small groups. Participants will receive materials which they will actively explore during the workshop and later take away to guide them when they apply their new skills. Topics to be covered include:
* the cornerstones of testing
* test types
* drafting test specifications
* writing objective test items
* testing the skills areas
* utilizing a variety of innovative and appropriate testing formats
It is hoped that attendees will leave the workshop equipped with a heightened awareness of current testing issues and the means to put them into practice.

TESOL AFFILIATE NEWS ABOUT
THE 2006 PERU TESOL NATIONAL CONVENTION IN IQUITOS REPORT
SHARING TEACHING AND LEARNING EXPERIENCES
IN A GLOBAL WORLD was the 14th PERU TESOL NATIONAL CONVENTION
held in Iquitos (in the Peruvian Jungle) from July 31st
to August 2nd.
The FOURTEENTH
PERU TESOL NATIONAL CONVENTION IN IQUITOS has Elisa
Gonzales Mera as its Convention Chair and C. Nefdy Falconi
Salazar as its Co Convention Chair.
“SHARING TEACHING AND LEARNING EXPERIENCES IN
A GLOBAL WORLD” was the 14th PERU TESOL NATIONAL
CONVENTION held in Iquitos (in the Peruvian Jungle)
from July 31st to August 2nd.
The organization of the PERU TESOL convention in Iquitos
was a great challenge for all of us who represent the
PERU TESOL National council, specially for the budget
the organization of an event like this requires, the
quality of the presenters and the number of attendees,
considering the high transport prices the speakers and
the participants had to pay to get to Iquitos.
Every thing went fine at the convention and we had 245
attendees, 13 American Speakers(most of them were TESOL
members), 1 Speaker from England, 1 Speaker from the
Netherlands, 1 Speaker from Australia, 1 Speaker from
South Africa, 1 Speaker from Hong Kong, 1 Speaker from
Mexico, 2 Speakers from Chile, and more than ten Speakers
from Peru. They have all contributed with the success
of our conference especially in the academic aspect.
Our Conference Keynote Speakers were:
Dr. Mary Lou ;McCloskey – Past President of TESOL
from Atlanta Georgia USA.
Dr. Diane Boothe from College of Education at Boise
State University Idaho USA
Dr. Karen Jogan from Albright College, Reading –
Pennsylvania USA.
The participation of Mary Lou McCloskey representing
TESOL was very important for the success of our conference.
The VIF Program (Visiting International Faculty) sponsor
our convention. The USA Embassy and the Fulbright Commission
in Lima - Peru were also giving us a hand.
We didn’t count with the help of the Book Dealers
this time, despite we sent them an invitation, and we
hope to count with them in our next Convention in Tacna.
To our understanding this was a very good conference,
considering the place it was held and the difficulties
our attendees had to be in it. We had a completely Academic
Convention.
Our 2007 National Convention will be held in Tacna in
the South West of Peru. We are already started with
its organization:
http://www.geocities.com/perutesol/tacna.html
Well, we thank TESOL again for its support.
We look forward to seeing more TESOL Members in our
2007 Convention in Tacna.
Best regard,
Prof. C. Nefdy Falconi Salazar
